We are celebrating the wrap up from year one of the Garfield Park Youth Adventure.
Thank you Kiwanis Foundation of Indianapolis for sharing our vision and supporting Indy’s youth.
The Garfield Park Youth Adventure program was a new program launched in 2018 for the express purpose of allowing local, under-served youth to experience sports, art, and nature through Garfield Park and various institutions in the Indianapolis area.
In this first year of the program, young people met subject matter experts, got a good look behind the scenes of four of our local sports teams and venues allowing them to see opportunities for participation and careers in business, entertainment, logistics and other categories that go way beyond athletics.
Some highlights from the first year of the program include:
Field trip to Victory Field to enjoy a day with the Indianapolis Indians.
The outing included bus transportation to/from Victory Field, discussions with Matt Guay, Assistant Manager, Director of Ticket Sales, and Director of Social Media, a behind the scenes tour of the Indian’s facility including the team work out area, team lounge, team laundry, and conference room and batting cages.
Students had the opportunity to hit balls in the batting cages and enjoy great seats for watching the game. Free refreshments were provided for youth and chaperones.
Field trip to Indiana Farmers Coliseum to enjoy an event with the Indy Fuel, minor league hockey team. The outing included bus transportation to/from the Farmers Coliseum, a behind the scenes tour led by the Fuel mascot, and a meeting with the Sponsorship/Ticket manager.
The students were also included in the opening ceremony of the game where they were able to see behind the scenes on how a game starts and the logistics that are involved in a professional organization. We sat front row during the game and enjoyed unlimited concession stand items.
Field Trip to Lucas Oil Stadium to enjoy an Indianapolis Colts game against the Tennessee Titans. The outing included bus transportation to/from Lucas Oil Stadium, tickets to the game, and refreshments for the youth participants and chaperones. The primary participants were youth football team members from the Garfield Park area from Ignite Academy and their two coaches.
Field trip to Lucas Oil Stadium to visit the Indy Eleven professional soccer team. The outing included an opportunity for the kids to meet the players and walk out onto the field before the game.
