Keep the fountains

A century-old landmark has come back to life. Together, we can preserve it for the next 100 years.
A landmark reborn
Support History for a sustainable future.
More than 100 years ago, Garfield Park was home to the nation’s first municipal park fountains with electric color lights synchronized to music. In the Sunken Garden, visitors found a tranquil green space just beyond the bustle of the city.
Years of maintenance challenges eventually left the fountains silent. Our recent restoration brought the water, light and music back—but restoration was only the beginning.
